Requirements
  • A university degree
  • A formal teaching qualification, such as, a B.Ed., M.Ed., PGCE, PGdip or QTS (TESOL and TEFL certificates qualify teachers for ESL positions only)
  • Ideally, a minimum of 5 years of full-time teaching experience in a school setting
  • Experience of working with children who have English as an additional language is ideal.
  • Excellent knowledge of the English National Curriculum and current assessment practices.

The school

The school is located in Kathmandu, Nepal, and provides education for students from Early Years to Year 13. Students from the age of 5 – 11 undergo the Cambridge International Primary Curriculum, along with an adapted version of the English National Curriculum for certain subjects. From Year 7 through to 11, students’ study towards and take Cambridge International Examinations, awarding students with international GCSEs (IGCSEs). In Sixth Form, students continue to follow the Cambridge International Framework and work towards their A Levels, while also offering the Edexcel syllabi.

The location

Nepal, located mainly in the Himalayas, is a landlocked country in South Asia. Kathmandu, the capital city, is set in a valley surrounded by the Himalayan mountains. Among them, is Annapurna, a group of mountains perfect for those with a love of hiking, trekking, and mountaineering. With mountains ranging from 6,000 to 8,000 metres in height and several world-class treks, Annapurna is a trekker’s dream. More of a UNESCO World Heritage Site kind of person? Not a problem! Take a trip to Kathmandu Durbar Square, located in front of the old royal palace of the former Kathmandu Kingdom is one of three Durbar Squares in the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal, all of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Other sites of interest include Boudhanath (The Boudha Stupa) – one of the largest stupas in the world – and the Pashupatinath Temple (Sacred Hindu Temple). Or take a trip to Chitwan National Park, featuring beautiful and imposing Bengal tigers, along with other wildlife native to Nepal. Whatever your interests, there is plenty to find and do in Nepal! If you ever do manage to run out of things to do, India (New Delhi), Bhutan, Myanmar, Bangladesh and West China (Tibet) are just around the corner . . . so to speak!
