FlyTeachers is recruiting a Head of Education / Head of Academics (EYFS and Key Stage 1) on behalf of a well-established British international school group in South Korea. The campus name is confidential, however the role is based in the Greater Seoul area (Seoul and Gyeonggi-do).
This position focuses on academic leadership rather than operations. The school has introduced a split leadership structure, with a dedicated Head of Operations leading operational and administrative functions. This role therefore centres on teaching and learning, curriculum direction, staff development, training, and quality assurance.
The group is open to both experienced school leaders and strong candidates ready to step up into leadership, including Deputy Headteachers, EYFS Leaders, Key Stage Leaders, Phase Leaders, and Education Coordinators.
Role Overview (Head of Education / Head of Academics)
As Head of Education / Head of Academics, you will lead academic standards across EYFS and Key Stage 1, ensuring consistently strong teaching, effective assessment, and a clear educational roadmap. You will be a visible leader in the school, supporting teachers through coaching and professional development, and strengthening systems that improve outcomes for all learners.
You will work closely with the Head of Operations as a partner role, ensuring the campus runs smoothly while academic quality, safeguarding culture, and student wellbeing remain central priorities.
Key responsibilities
Academic Leadership and Standards
- Lead and embed high-quality teaching and learning across EYFS and Key Stage 1.
- Strengthen curriculum planning aligned to the EYFS Framework and the National Curriculum for England.
- Ensure effective differentiation and inclusive practice so that students of all abilities make strong progress.
- Implement and maintain consistent academic expectations across classrooms, including routines that support calm, productive learning.
Teacher Development, Coaching, and Training
- Lead professional development aligned to early years and primary best practice.
- Coach teachers through observation, feedback, modelling, and reflective dialogue.
- Support induction for new staff and ensure consistent implementation of curriculum and assessment expectations.
Assessment and Quality Assurance
- Strengthen assessment practice appropriate to EYFS and KS1, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
- Track progress, identify gaps early, and support teachers to plan responsive interventions.
- Establish clear routines for monitoring standards (learning walks, coaching cycles, work scrutiny, and pupil progress conversations).
Pastoral Care and Safeguarding Culture
- Champion a safe, inclusive, child-centred learning environment.
- Promote wellbeing and positive behaviour systems appropriate for early years and younger primary learners.
- Model and maintain strong safeguarding practices and expectations across the school community.
Parent Partnership and Community Engagement
- Build strong relationships with parents through clear, proactive communication.
- Communicate academic progress sensitively and professionally, including when managing concerns or high expectations.
- Support school events and community engagement that strengthen trust and visibility.
Collaboration Across a Group Structure
- Work constructively within a wider school group, sharing best practice and aligning standards across campuses.
- Liaise with central support functions where required (for example HR, finance, IT, and marketing support).

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and a postgraduate teaching qualification (for example PGCE or equivalent).
- At least 3-5 years of senior leadership experience
- Demonstrable leadership experience within school settings, with the ability to make sound decisions based on evidence, experience, and vision.
- Proven track record in people management and team development, building positive working cultures and high performance.
- Strong safeguarding knowledge and a clear commitment to pupil welfare and wellbeing.
- Confidence leading Early Years and/or Key Stage 1, with secure knowledge of effective pedagogy and contemporary practice for younger learners.
- Excellent communication skills, including confidence speaking to parents and wider audiences with tact, diplomacy, and cultural sensitivity.
Desirable
- Leadership qualifications or additional training in leadership, curriculum, or assessment.
- International school experience and/or experience supporting EAL learners.
- Confidence presenting to groups (staff training, parent sessions, community events).
