FlyTeachers is currently recruiting school leaders for the upcoming academic year. FlyTeachers is recruiting a Development Director (Academic) on behalf of our clients in Korea. This is a high-impact K–12 academic leadership role across a group of small, British-curriculum international schools, focused on driving consistent standards in curriculum, assessment, teaching and learning, leadership development, and safeguarding.

About the schools (British curriculum, Cambridge pathways)

Our clients deliver a British-style education including EYFS, the National Curriculum for England / Cambridge International Curriculum, and Cambridge IGCSE and A Level. The schools are intentionally small, with a strong emphasis on pastoral care, clear communication, and visible pupil progress.

Role overview (Academic Director / School Improvement Leader)

Reporting to the Group Leadership Team and line-managing Campus Headteachers, you will lead academic strategy and quality across multiple campuses. This role is ideal for an experienced senior leader who can align practice across sites, coach leaders effectively, and deliver measurable improvement.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and implement group-wide academic strategy with clear milestones, metrics and evidence-based reporting.
  • Strengthen curriculum coherence and progression across campuses (K–12), including assessment design, moderation and data-informed improvement.
  • Embed quality assurance processes (teaching and learning reviews, improvement planning, evaluation cycles) to support consistent standards.
  • Develop leadership capacity through coaching, induction, succession planning and talent development.
  • Ensure safeguarding systems reflect best practice and maintain strong organisational readiness.
  • Represent the organisation with boards, parents and external partners with professional credibility and clarity.
  • Collaborate with Head Office teams to strengthen alignment and operational consistency across campuses.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree plus PGCE (or equivalent recognised teaching qualification)
  • At least 8-10 years of senior leadership experience in a K–12 school setting (for example Principal/Headteacher, Deputy/Assistant Head, Head of School, Director of Teaching and Learning, or equivalent)
  • Proven track record of improving whole-school outcomes through curriculum, assessment and teaching and learning excellence
  • Demonstrated ability to coach teachers and leaders to improve practice and impact

Desirable

  • Experience coaching senior leaders, ideally across more than one campus or school
